Suicide affects many people in our
society today. Campaign Against Suicide (C.A.S) was started in Limerick,
Ireland to draw attention to the issue.
We believe that suicide is something
that can and should be talked about more openly. We also believe that
the pressure surrounding suicidal ideation may be reduced by talking
in confidence to a trusted person about all the issues involved at that
time and may help a person to avoid suicide.
This website features interviews with
people who have been affected by suicide. We hope that listening to
these interviews will help others. Click HERE
The HELP section has details of organisations
who may be able to help you if you are suicidal. Click HERE
We are also advocating for a
drop in centre to be opened in Limerick city centre for people who are
suicidal. Click HERE

SOLICITATION
of ideas, suggestions, goodwill and combined expertise of the majority
in local society to develop policies and strategies to prevent suicide.
IMPLEMENTATION
of these policies and strategies at a local level to prevent suicide.
MAGNIFICATION
of awareness of the communality of personal problems that seem unique
to the individual and awareness of the services that exist to encourage
people, especially in the vulnerable 15-24 year old age group, to
come forward and avail of these services and seek help/treatment.
This will involve combating
taboos associated with the discussion of suicide, depression, emotions
(especially among young men), human sexuality and also combating stygmatisation,
labeling and stereotyping of diagnosed conditions of mental illness.
The mind is an organ of the body as much as the heart, if there is
no stygma attached to having a heart condition then why should we
allow a stygma to be attached to an ailment of the mind.
PUBLICATION
To publicise to as great an extent possible, with the help and goodwill
of local agencies and media, (especially those with an audience/readership
that contains vulnerable groupings such as 15-24 year olds, post retirement
65+ and members of our gay community) the services that are available
so that individuals might seek help and present for treatment.
To tackle taboos, stereotyping,
labeling and stygmatisation so that vulnerable people will not be
ashamed or embarrassed to present themselves to professional services
for help/treatment. This will include dissemination of information
to interested parties.
LOBBYING
for more resources to be deployed toward suicide prevention and mental
health treatment.
ENGAGEMENT
and co-operation with other bodies, agencies and parties with similar
objectives towards common goals.
